Meet Iman Moussa, Owner of Koshary by Misteka! (Cooking Demo, too!)

January 9, 2021 @ 4:00 pm 5:30 pm

We are so excited to learn more about the beautiful Iman Moussa, who owns Koshary by Misteka and has been taking such good care of us during the pandemic by providing delicious, creative SOS-free dishes. During this meetup, she will share her story and do a cooking demo!

Here is some background about Iman:

“I arrived in the US nine years ago with my husband and three boys.
In a quest to figure out my new world and grow new roots I found aid in cooking one pr more of my mom’s recipes to share with neighbors and school moms. A well-prepared meal became my new way of introducing myself and establishing connections.

I decided I’ll make this universal language my gateway into the business world and I started thinking about what my brand would look like and how can I share more of myself and where I come from. So Misteka was born! A wholesale company manufacturing Mediterranean inspired desserts and snacks. A three-year journey taught me so much about the food system in America. Where our food comes from, how it’s created, and how it affects our health and the environment. More knowledge revealed A LOT about the practices behind how our food is sourced especially animal products.

I decided to pivot. I wanted my brand to highlight compassion. Compassion towards humans, animals, and the environment.
So the gear shifted to hiring underprivileged refugee or immigrant women to manufacture animal-free product foods using practices with the gentlest impact on the environment (as much as the industry would allow).

While working on swapping my whole line of products for cleaner, plant-based options the opportunity presented itself and a location inside Howard County’s first food hall (The Common Kitchen) at the Clarksville Commons newly established plaza presented itself. The vision of this town center aligned with the vision of my brand. A town center with a commitment to environmental sustainability is where I was set to start my journey and Koshary, our first retail space was born in October 2018. Here is more about why I love this place 🙂 https://clarksvillecommons.com/green/

Koshary by Misteka, A vegan brand featuring the national dish of Egypt, my homeland. The brand is focusing on introducing Egyptian and Mediterranean dishes and culture with a laser-sharp focus and commitment to:
Continually Dedicating a portion of our sales to charities addressing food scarcity. Since day one our ongoing #donteatalone campaign has channeled thousands of meals to partner charities. More about the campaign on our website.
Integrity in all our practices, and ethical sourcing of all ingredients.
Commitment to providing job/training opportunities for refugees/immigrants to help them become financially independent and contributing individuals to our society.

Koshary exists to leverage the universal language of food in providing a wholesome experience for its customers. We’re in the market to enrich not to compete. Koshary is my means of sharing what I love, value, and appreciate about my heritage and where I come from. Everything we do, we do with love and hope you feel the love we’re sending your way.”
